Preface: Why Focus on Humility?

HUMILITY: TRUE GREATNESS C. J. MAHANEY

HUMILITY IS A FUNNY THING.

Humility found in the dictionary

HUMILITY IS:

the quality or condition of being humblemodest opinion or estimate ofone's own importance, rank, etc.

: the quality or state of not thinking you are better than other people : the quality or state of being humble

The quality or condition of being humble.

is the quality of being humble. If you meet one of your heroes and feel nervous and in awe for her, you are experiencing humility.

Humility comes from the Latin word humilis, which literally means low. If you feel humility in front of someone, you feel small in the scheme of things — that you are just a simple, insignificant person. Someone who spends his life taking care of others shows humility. Although it's related to humiliation (which makes you feel low in a bad way), humility is usually used to talk about a lack of ego.

Humility According to Wikipedia

Humility (adjectival formhumble) is variously seen as the act or posture of lowering oneself in relation to others, or conversely, having a clear perspective and respect for one's place in context. In a religious context this can mean a recognition of self in relation to a deity or deities, acceptance of one's defects, and submission to divine grace or as a member of an organized, hierarchical religion. Absent a religious context humility can still take on a moral and/or ethical dimension.
Humility, in various interpretations, is widely seen as a virtue in many religious and philosophical traditions, often in contrast to narcissismhubris and other forms of pride.
The act of imposing humility upon another person is called "humiliation".
